DWI AND DRUNK DRIVING ARRESTS UP IN AUSTIN

The Austin Police Department reports DWI | Driving While Intoxicated deaths and arrests were up substantially in 2013 compared to 2012. This is despite unprecedented DWI enforcement efforts by the department. In 2012, 33 people died in Austin, Texas in automobile collisions where alcohol was a factor. Amazingly, in 2013 Austin hit this death mark by the end of March. Total numbers of deaths in alcohol related car wrecks for 2013 will not be released until March 2014.
MADD continues to do great work and fight for change in the Austin area to prevent injury and deaths from alcohol related auto collisions. keyetv reports Angela Tidwell, with MADD said,
“We support checkpoints and high visibility enforcement which would be the no-refusals, the Arrive Alive, Home for the Holiday initiatives that law enforcement do across Texas”
